Canford Magna Centre - Canford Magna
Extension to Church Hall - Conservation Area
The Canford Magna Centre was built approximately 20 years ago to provide a community facility to support the growth of the Historic Church. It lies to the southwest of the rectory, which in turn is positioned to the southwest of the Church.
The beautiful Church, which plays such a special role in the area, not only for the regular congregation but also as a key part of Canford School, dates from c1060. It has been enlarged and altered throughout the ages, with the original Saxon church being retained as the chancel. It is the oldest building in the Borough of Poole.
Due to the increasing numbers visiting the Church and the Canford Magna Centre, which not only offers the Hall for Church usage but also a fantastic space for many local activities and social meetings, the design board was instructed to forward a design to extend the existing Hall.
Having close interaction with the Planning Officer from the onset due to the importance of the site as a whole and its location within the Conservation Area, we were able to produce an extremely interesting design which holds many features to promote its use. The large glazed frontage is the pinnacle of the Granted Planning Permission which is intriguing to the eye and invites any visitor to the area to investigate the building and its services further.
